Local indie Canberra band Slow Turismo have just finished up a short line of headline shows taking them interstate to Sydney and Melbourne in support of the release of the video clip for their latest single. A funky bass line accompanied by a distinctive electronically fuelled riff brings out Slow Turismo’s unique sound in their recent track, ‘Falter’. Released in December last year, the track has been well received, gaining popularity on a wide scale having being played on both Australian and U.S radio over the last few months.
With multiple reviews on the band’s Triple J Unearthed page for their tracks ‘Breathe’ and ‘I sit down as soon as I get up’, Slow Turismo’s reputation continues to grow. Keep an eye out for this band – with more music sure to come and only bigger and better things to happen, Slow Turismo are definitely a talent to keep track of. You can keep up with them via their Soundcloud and YouTube links below.
On tour for his debut album, Telluric, ARIA award winner Matt Corby performed in Canberra last Monday, 18th of April. Supported by upcoming Sydney artist Vera Blue, Corby soothed the hearts, eyes and ears of everyone in the crowd with a list of his songs released over the years. His live band were spectacular, keeping everyone uncontrollably moving right when they should have been, and holding back on the exceptionally relaxed songs. Crowd favouritesincluding Resolution, Brother and Knife Edge were standouts, performed with almost hypnotic effect. However, it was the first single off Telluric that had everyone in awe – Monday. A loop pedal and a few minutes of nothing but his exceptional voice was all that was needed to build up the beautiful vocals behind Corby’s swooning track. The Australian National University’s Llewellyn Hall’s outstanding orchestra harmonics only helped the
effect, leaving the audience in admiration at the end of the show favourite. Matt Corby’s stand out performance was one for all to remember, and I can only encourage everyone to witness the great performance he has to offer at the next opportunity you get.
Born in Ghana and living in Canberra since the age of 2, Genesis Owusu has worked hard to form his way into the Australian music scene. With a huge passion for music and a great ability with words, he has been able to create a name for himself in the music industry. His impressive and articulate abilities are displayed in all of his songs, but in particular in The Day After Valentine’s, which has been receiving air time on both Triple J Unearthed Radio and Triple J as of late. This track also saw him gain a top 5 placing in last year's Triple J Unearthed High competition, further developing his reputation and helping his popularity and presence to grow.
With many gigs and performances in venues across the city, the rapper has by no means stumbled into the scene with little work, and has sealed himself a place in 2016's Canberra Groovin' The Moo' lineup. This is the next big step for Genesis Owusu's career, and he will be hitting the stage at 11.05am on Sunday the 24th of April. Make sure that everyone attending this year's Groovin' The Moo festival in the nation's capital comes along early to see and support this local talent. You can check out his latest track released just in time for his GTM'16 performance, Drive Slow, through his Soundcloud and YouTube links just below.
